Reflecting on Chapter 10, the models listed on the table in Meleis (Table 10-1, p. 177), and the module on Nurse Scholars in Theory Evaluation for Week 6, succinctly evaluate the theory you have selected to present. Include four paragraphs with the following headings: Theory Description, Analysis, Evaluation, and Development. In the description, include and discuss origins, influences, historical context, scope, purpose, main concepts, and structure of the theory. In the analysis, include and discuss assumptions, clarity, accessibility, generalizability, context, and importance. In the evaluation, compare the views of nurse scholars in theory evaluation. Discuss how the theory can be used to direct general and/or advanced nursing practice and evaluate how it contributes to favorable patient and/or family outcomes. Good’s Acute Pain Management Theory
It is a middle-range nursing theory that was developed by Marion Good and Shirley Moore. Acute pain management theory is aimed at achieving a balance between analgesia and side effects in management of pain (Good, 1998). The theory provides nurses with a guideline in structuring of pain management plan to ensure that optimal pain control is achieved and at the same time reduce the side effects associated with the use of analgesics.
